An all-electric SUV in 2026 at Mitsubishi?
Last year, Mitsubishi unveiled its plan called Momentum 2030. The latter will see us see the arrival of a new model, or a refreshed product, every year between now and the end of this decade. Two of the anticipated models will be brand new for the brand.
This year, we will at least be entitled to the refresh of the Outlander, which is scheduled for February.
Next year, what should happen to us at Mitsubishi is the arrival of the first of many electric vehicles that the brand is preparing. The latter, according to what we hear through the branches, will show up in the second half of 2026. The information concerning the arrival of this model was shared by Mitsubishi executives, comments made during the meeting of American dealers that was held very recently.
As for the expected model, it would be a compact or subcompact SUV, a vehicle that would be similar in size to the Nissan LEAF replacement at Nissan. It would adopt a style closer to a coupe than a square SUV. Mitsubishi would therefore be entitled to its own version. The model would be assembled in Japan.
It should not be forgotten that despite everything that is said about Nissan's talks with Honda, Mitsubishi is still a partner of Nissan.
In fact, Nissan owns 34% of Mitsubishi. The current Mitsubishi Outlander shares its platform with the Nissan Rogue, and the Outlander has the particularity of being offered in a plug-in hybrid version, which is not the case for the Rogue.
When the model arrives next year, it will be the first all-electric offering from Mitsubishi since the small i-MiEV was retired after 2017.
Finally, regarding the Momentum 2030 plan, it will include all-electric models, as well as hybrids and plug-in hybrids. Remember that when the plan was announced, it was possible to see seven models in an image giving us a glimpse of the brand's future.
All of this bodes well for the coming years, as we feel that Mitsubishi is in the best position it has ever been in Canada. There is reason to rejoice.
